3-Star LB Jeremiah Marcelin Picks Pitt Over Maryland on NSD

Pitt linebacker commit Jeremiah Marcelin.

There was an expectation that National Signing Day could result in a couple of Pitt commits flipping, but those fears have resulted in naught.

Francis Brewu, a four-star defensive tackle from Columbus, Ohio, stuck with the Panthers early Wednesday morning — starting the day off strong. And Jeremiah Marcelin brought more good news.

Marcelin — a 6-foot-3, 230-pound three-star linebacker from Norland High in Miami, Fla. — reaffirmed his commitment to Pitt, tossing a Maryland ball cap aside before placing a Pitt cap on his head at his National Signing Day ceremony.

Marcelin committed to Pitt over the summer, after taking official visits to Pitt, Maryland and Louisville, but both Maryland and Louisville continued to recruit him heavily. But despite the continued interest, with both Maryland and Lousiville prioritizing the talented Miami native, the Panthers won out in the end.

Aside from just Louisville and Maryland, Marcelin originally chose Pitt over the likes of Auburn, Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, Florida State, Kentucky, Miami, Ole Miss, Stanford, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCF and West Virginia. He was a big win in Florida at the time, and it’s only more important now that he capped off an impressive class.

Marcelin was extremely impactful on a very good Norland squad as a senior, racking up 65 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, eight sacks and two forced fumbles and a recovery — putting up massive numbers as a junior, too.

And while he’s blessed with excellent size, already looking like a seasoned veteran, and a mix of pass rushing chops, superb play recognition and controlled aggression, his mentality may be his biggest asset.

“When you look at my game, I’m a very hard-nosed, downhill, aggressive football player,” Marcelin told PSN in June. “That’s everything about Pitt. The grit they have, the determination to get to the ball, it’s a reason they finish top five every year since 2019 in sacks and TFLs and turnovers because they play really aggressive defense and that’s my style of play.”

247Sports rates Marcelin as the 657th-ranked recruit in the class (58th-ranked linebacker and 92nd-ranked recruit from Florida) while On3 rates him as the 639th-ranked recruit in the class (59th-ranked linebacker and 85th-ranked recruit from Florida).

Rivals rates him as the 28th-ranked outside linebacker and 80th-ranked recruit from Florida — holding a 5.7 Rivals Rating.

With Marcelin signing, Pitt is bringing in a linebacking class that includes four-star Cameron Lindsey and three-star Davin Brewton. It’s an impressive class with a lot of positional versatility and potential star power.

He certainly had an impressive offer sheet. Playing on a very competitive high school level earned him that sheet. This was an excellent get. He could easily have been a 4 star grade
