Groundhog Day’s Best ESPN BET Bets: St. Bonaventure-Dayton, Clippers-Pistons, Ohio St-Iowa
Happy Groundhog Day to all those who observe. Thursday night was another good night for the Winning Picks, going 2-1. The Knicks and Nebraska both had hard fought games on the court but ended up covering and winning in the end versus the Pacers and Wisconsin. Sadly, RMU battled with Oakland for most of the game but failed to cover on the road. We moved to 130-95-3 on the year.
When the 49ers and Chiefs met in the Super Bowl a number of years ago, one of the worst bad beats in football history occurred. Unfortunately, I was one those on the wrong side of it. This bet involved Patrick Mahomes rushing yards for the game. This bet had hit in about the middle of the 4th quarter, but disaster struck.
To run out the clock, Mahomes took a knee, very standard in football, to close out a victory. Mahomes sat at 44 yards rushing entering the final drive, he would then proceed to take kneel downs that lost him 15 rushing yards, ruining a rushing prop that was around 33.5. If you plan to bet either Mahomes or Brock Purdy rushing yards in the Super Bowl, please be aware that this can happen.

St. Bonaventure Bonnies at Dayton Flyers (-7.5) O/U 134.5 7:00 PM on ESPN 2
After a few down years,the Dayton Flyers are officially back to running the A-10. This is easily their best season since they went 29-2 in the 2019/2020 season that was ended early by the pandemic. I really wanted to see that Obi Toppen led team in the tourney, what could have been.
Now back on top, the Flyers are poised to make their first NCAA tournament since 2017. The Bonnies won’t be an easy out tonight, but I believe the Flyers win and cover tonight at home.

Los Angeles Clippers (-11.5) at Detroit Pistons O/U 238.5 7:00 PM
One of the best teams in the NBA faces the worst team in the league as the Clippers travel to Detroit to face the Pistons. You could’ve reversed who was the best and worst more than 2 decades ago when the Pistons were one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference and the Clippers sat at the bottom of the West. Times have surely changed.
This Clipper team is poised to finally make a run in the NBA playoffs. As long as everyone stays healthy, they will find themselves in at very least the Western Conference finals. With tonight’s game, LA should have no problem winning and covering against lowly Detroit.

Another Big Ten team at home? Count me in. The Iowa Hawkeyes have home court advantage tonight as they host the Buckeyes of Ohio St. I bring up Big Ten teams at home in conference play because, well, they are pretty good. Home teams in the Big Ten are 38-28-1 against the spread this season.
Home court has been king in the Big Ten. We just saw Wisconsin fall on the road last night to Nebraska, one of our Winning Picks. Tonight in Iowa, I believe the Hawkeyes will be too much for the Buckeyes and they will win and cover at home.
