Pitt Makes Top 4 for Elite 2025 4-Star In-State QB

Pitt is firmly in the running for one of the top quarterbacks in the class of 2025.
Matt Zollers — a 6-foot-3, 205-pound four-star quarterback from Spring-Ford High School in Royersford, Pa. — has narrowed the focus of his recruitment. According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Zollers is focusing on Georgia, Missouri, Penn State and Pitt going forward.
He cut down a list of offers that also included Boston College, ECU, Florida, Indiana, Kentucky, Liberty, Michigan State, Nebraska, Old Dominion, Syracuse, Temple, USF, Virginia, Virginia Tech and UConn.

Zollers picked up his first offer from Pitt last September, and he’s been out a handful of times to check out Pittsburgh. It doesn’t hurt that his older brother Zach is currently a walk-on defensive end either.
Former offensive coordinator Frank Cignetti Jr. initiated the process with Zollers, and when new offensive coordinator Kade Bell arrived, it was a seamless transition.
“(Bell has) been really good, he’s very straight up,” Zollers said. “The type of offense he runs sounds very intriguing to play in. He seems like a very nice person. I’m going to try to go up for a visit soon, so I finally get to meet him, but I FaceTimed him a couple times, talked to him on the phone a couple times and have been texting him a lot.”
Zollers made it out last for game-day visits against Cincinnati and Louisville, and his first-ever visit was all the way back in 2021.
“(The visits) were good,” Zollers said. “It was really cool to see everything. After the second one, they won. So, I got to go into the locker room to see what happens after a win. So, that was cool to see. They were nice.”
It’s easy to see why Zollers has become one of, if not the top, prospects on the Pitt recruiting board in the class of 2025.
Zollers was almost unstoppable as a junior at Spring-Ford, completing 182-of-290 pass attempts (62.8%) for 2,917 yards with 37 touchdowns to two interceptions — adding 420 rushing yards and seven more touchdowns.
247Sports rates Zollers as the 148th-ranked recruit in the class (ninth-ranked quarterback and third-ranked recruit from Pennsylvania) while Rivals rates him as the 23rd-ranked quarterback and 10th-ranked recruit from Pennsylvania — holding a 5.8 Rivals Rating.
It will be vital to get Zollers back out to Pittsburgh this spring to check out a spring practice and re-connect with the coaching staff in an attempt to get him back out for an official visit over the summer. Zollers is in high-demand, but it’s clear that Pitt is in the mix to land the talented signal-caller.
Pitt landed its first commitment in the class of 2025 Monday night in the form of Trevor Sommers, a defensive lineman from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and there could very well be more on the way in the coming days and weeks.
The Panthers are in the mix for four-star linebacker Dayshaun Burnett (Pittsburgh, Pa.), three-star athlete Emmanuel Taylor (Virginia Beach, Va.), three-star offensive lineman Raphael Greene (Cincinnati, Ohio), four-star wide receiver Jadyn Robinson (San Juan Capistrano, Cal.), three-star running back Jeffrey Overton Jr. (Woodbridge, Va.), three-star athlete Jaiden Brown-Demery (Mest Mifflin, Pa.) and three-star edge rusher Sharlandiin Strange (Wyncote, Pa).
