Five Star Meleek Thomas Begins Official Visit with Pitt

Published

on

Meleek Thomas has been around the Pitt basketball program as much as any prospect over the past few years.

Despite many unofficial trips to see the Panthers, he has not taken an official visit with the program — until now. This weekend will be Thomas’ official visit with the Panthers’ program.

Alongside future Pitt guard Brandin Cummings, Thomas recently led Lincoln Park to a WPIAL 4a championship victory. The five star had 21 points and ten rebounds in the win, showcasing his pure scoring ability in front of Pitt coaches Jeff and Jason Capel.

He is ranked as the No. 6 player in the class of 2025, per 247 Sports’ Composite rankings. Thomas is the top player in the state of Pennsylvania, and the No. 1 combo guard in the country.

Thomas has a seat at the Petersen Events Center at each game right behind the basket, and he has been to at least five different home games this season by PSN’s count: Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Florida State, Canisius, Jacksonville, and likely others.

In February, Thomas told Joe Tipton of On3 that he wanted to take seven more official visits before making a decision on his school. He told Tipton he would like to take official trips to Duke, Pitt, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan, Tennessee, and UConn. He already took an official visit to Kentucky back in early February.

The difference between unofficial and official visits lies in the cost. On an unofficial trip, the recruit pays for transportation and all expenses totaled on the trip. On an official visit, the school pays for the entire trip.

Hey Meleek, Stay at home and help the Pitt program over the top!! Don’t you want to be that man? All those other programs have had their days, it’s time for the new blood to rise and you can do it!

Hopefully you contribute to all the NIL money he and the current guards will command to stay. I hate the current state of college athletics.
