After two straight good days with the Winning Picks, we came back down to Earth on Sunday with a 1-2 finish. Our only win of the day was the miracle comeback by Texas A&M that helped us cover against Houston. James Madison was beaten down by Duke in a blow out loss. The over never had a chance in Grand Canyon/Alabama. We moved to 217-164-3 on the year.
The first two days of the tournament were great for underdogs. The last two days, great for favorites. But now we can reset and view what is left of the field. For the first time in a long time, there were no #1 or #2 seeds eliminated before the Sweet 16. It has been a good while since that happened.
But now, who is the favorite to win? Not much as changed at the top, obviously, but there is a #3 seed out there that in my opinion aren’t getting the respect they should be getting in the futures market. Right now, Illinois is +4000 to win it all. A lot of this has to do with the fact that they would play UConn if they win their next game against Iowa St. The Fighting Illini can play with anyone in the country, a small risk on them can turn into a huge win in a couple weeks.
Now onto the Winning Picks!
Boston Celtics (-10.5) at Atlanta Hawks O/U 224.5 7:30 PM on NBA TV
It has been awhile since we have done a NBA game but tonight we are getting back into it with the best team in the league the Boston Celtics traveling to Atlanta to face the Hawks. If there was a President’s Trophy like in hockey in the NBA, the Celtics would be on the verge of wrapping it up at this point.
The Hawks are just surviving in the 10th seed in the East, which would put them in the play-in tournament. They lead the Nets by 5.5 games with 12 games remaining. This game should be a cake walk for the Celtics tonight and I really like the over to cover. Expect a lot of points in Hot Lanta.
Over 224.5 Covers, Boston Celtics 134 Atlanta Hawks 105
#8 West Virginia Mountaineers at #1 Iowa Hawkeyes (-14.5) O/U 163.5 NCAA Women’s Tournament Second Round 8:00 PM on ESPN
With the Men’s NCAA Tournament off until Thursday, we turn to the women’s game as WVU faces off with Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Clark has pretty much done everything you could do in women’s college basketball except one thing: win a championship. She looks to take the next step towards that as her Hawkeyes host a pesky Mountaineer team.
I think WVU will give Iowa a fight early, but given that this game is on the Hawkeyes’ home floor, I don’t see them pulling an upset. I like Clark to go off tonight in what will be her final home game and help the Hawkeyes cover against the Mountaineers tonight.
Iowa Covers -14.5, West Virginia Mountaineers 60 Iowa Hawkeyes 81
Los Angeles Kings at Vancouver Canucks (-130) O/U 5.5 9:00 PM on ESPN+
Two of the top teams in the Pacific Division clash in British Columbia as Vancouver hosts Los Angeles. The Canucks have pretty much locked up first place in this division while the Kings are battling it out with the Oilers for the second seed that Edmonton currently holds.
These teams split the first two meetings in LA and I believe Vancouver will have the edge tonight as they have one of the best home records in hockey. The Kings are pretty good on the road as well, but the Winning Pick tonight is the Canucks to win.
