Pitt Misses on In-State 4-Star Quarterback Matt Zollers

On February 6, in-state quarterback and four-star talent Matt Zollers released his top four schools that included, Penn State, Missouri, Georgia and Pitt.

For a while, it looked like Pitt was a true player in the Matt Zollers sweepstakes.

However, in the last few weeks, it looked like Pitt was an outside choice and that became a reality today when Zollers committed to Missouri inside the Spring-Ford High School Principal’s Conference Room that was livestreamed on X.

Landing Zollers would have been significant for Pitt’s 2025 recruiting cycle with just two players so far filling in that group, which already includes a quarterback.

Zollers, who stands at 6-foot-4, 210-pounds, is a consensus four-star recruit that earned a 94.11 via the On3 Industry Ranking, while claiming the top spot in Pennsylvania in the class and the fifth overall quarterback.

In his junior season, Zollers completed 182 of 290 pass attempts (62.8%) for 2,917 yards with 37 touchdowns, while only throwing two interceptions. He also added 420 rushing yards and seven more touchdowns.

Pitt was a hopeful landing spot for Zollers after he made a stop to visit the program on March 28. He also made trips to each of his other three favorites leading up to his decision. His brother, Zach, is a defensive lineman walk-on for the Panthers.

Despite missing out on Zollers, the Panthers have their quarterback of the ’25 recruiting class secured with Mason Heintschel committing on March 24.

Mi$$ouri has a TON of NIL ca$h they threw his way. Cash the checks and enjoy your time down there, kid. When you’re ready to actually play football, Duzz will leave the light on for you.

Crowded QB room Pitt never had a chance, I expect at least 2 leaving after this year.

It’s funny to say never had a chance. PITT was named by the young man.
And two leaving after this season. Not unusual in the NIL days.
The beat goes on. H2P.

Very interesting. Kudos to the Missouri coaching staff to pull-off the unexpected. This kid’s reel shows extreme talent. Barring injury, definitely a future NFL’er. At least Pitt was in the thick of the sweepstakes, which is a good future sign if KB can deliver on a highly effective offense.
