With Bub Carrington declaring for the NBA Draft recently, Pitt has now started to reach out to guards in the transfer portal, looking to bolster the back court led by Ishmael Leggett and Jaland Lowe.
The staff reached out to another guard recently, hitting up Roddy Gayle Jr. out of Ohio State.
Gayle is a 6-foot-4 guard out of Niagara Falls, NY who played two seasons for the Buckeyes. The sophomore averaged 13.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game this season for Chris Holtmann and Jake Diebler’s Buckeyes, and recently entered the portal.
Gayle shot 45% from the field and 28% from three in his breakout season in Columbus. He had three games of 20+ points this season, including a 32-point outburst against West Virginia in an overtime win. The former four-star prospect was the No. 50 overall player in the 2022 class. He included the Panthers in his final six schools list out of high school, along with Ohio State, Syracuse, Connecticut, Georgetown, and Marquette.
The Panthers have reached out to several transfer portal prospects, targeting wings and forwards so far and now Gayle and other guards. Check out The Portal Report‘s transfer tracker platform below to follow the Panthers and all teams’ recruiting action this spring and summer.

Would be a nice pick up. He would be a good replacement for Bub.
