When defensive linemen receive an offer from Pitt, it immediately piques their interest.
Pitt’s defensive line success from sack totals to All-Americans have provided a recruiting advantage for the Panthers.

However, there is one name that is synonymous for any aspiring collegiate defensive linemen and that’s, of course, the unanimous All-American, three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and Super Bowl champion Aaron Donald.
For four-star edge rusher Herbert Scroggins III, that’s where his mind shifted when he received an offer from Pitt on Thursday.
“I was like wow, I got an offer from where the best D lineman went, which is Aaron Donald, in my opinion,” Scroggins III told Pittsburgh Sports Now.
From 2019 through 2021, Pitt led all of FBS football with 151 sacks and have boasted a handful of consensus All-Americans on the d-line in Calijah Kancey (2022), Patrick Jones II (2020) and Rashad Weaver (2020).
That track record of success resonates with the 6-foot-3, 235-pound athlete.
“Knowing Pitt and their history with defensive linemen and sacks is impressive,” he said.
Scroggins III, who holds a 5.8 rating from Rivals and is the No. 2 edge rusher in the state of Georgia, received the Pitt offer from defensive line coach Tim Daoust.
The Benedictine Military School product prides himself on his ability to get into the backfield in a hurry and put pressure on the quarterback.
“I play smart and aggressive,” he said. “The thing that stands out between me and other recruits is my get off and getting from point A to point B in a matter of seconds.”
Scroggins III holds a plethora of Power 4 offers and is receiving the most interest from Tennessee, Auburn, Georgia Tech, USC, North Carolina, West Virginia, Miami, Kansas and others.
Looking ahead, Scroggins III further tells Pittsburgh Sports Now that he will try to make a trip in to visit the Panthers. As of now, he has locked in an official visit with North Carolina (June 7-9) and Miami (June 21-23).
Going to be a tough get. A nice list of suitors. Maybe a personal visit from Mr. Donald himself.
I’d love to see Donald become an assistant coach. Recruiting quality would really move up on the D-line, and maybe even other Defense positions.
