Florida DB Vinkevus Pierre Recaps Trip to Pitt: ‘The Visit Was Definitely Worth It’

Last week the Pitt football program received a few official visits from prospects from two of the states that they put in the most time recruiting- Georgia and Florida.

Junior defensive back Vinkevus Pierre made the flight up to Pittsburgh from talent rich Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach, Florida. Pitt and Pierre (6-foot-1, 190 pounds) have a special relationship because back on Jan. 20, Charlie Partridge and the Panthers became the first program to extend him a D-I offer.

Pierre made his visit to Pitt on Friday and Pittsburgh Sports Now spoke to him afterward, as he and his father made their way back to Florida.

“Coach Partridge and I have a good relationship and he’s told me that I’m one of his top recruits,” said Pierre. “Because of that, I wanted to come check things out myself and see their facilities and  how they practice. I was able to do that and I learned that their practices are very intense, very fast paced and very physical.

”After practice, they told me that they’re going to keep watching and recruiting me. They told me that I would fit in great at safety or linebacker. Coach wanted me to specifically watch one of their players No. 9 Brandon Hill because I would be taking on his role and what he does if I were to commit there. I believe making the visit was definitely worth it.”

This was Pierre’s first visit to Pittsburgh and his first opportunity to speak in depth with members of the Pitt staff. What has the biggest thing he learned about Pat Narduzzi’s program?

”How competitive this team is and with everything they do. I also learned how fast paced things are done there in practice. I like that. … I’m glad I had the chance to see Coach Partridge,” said Pierre. “I believe that we’ve built a good relationship. He’s come down and watched some of our spring practices. I look forward to it getting stronger with him and other members of the Pitt staff.”
