On Monday, the Duquesne staff reached out to a transfer guard in hopes to bring some veteran experience to its young back court.
Duquesne was among the schools that contacted Mike Saunders Jr., a 6-foot guard who played the last two seasons at Cincinnati. The Indianapolis native played 33 games this season, averaging more than 20 minutes per game and more than seven points per game. His parents confirmed to Pittsburgh Sports Now that the Duquesne staff reached out on Monday.

In addition to the initial contact between the two sides on Monday, Saunders’ father told PSN that head coach Keith Dambrot spoke with Mike Jr. on Tuesday morning.
Compared to his freshman season, this year, Saunders improved his points per game, assists per game, field goal percentage, three-point percentage, and more. He finished the year shooting 40% from the field and 36% from three-point range.
Saunders also heard from a long list of schools upon entering the portal, including UNLV, Cal, and others.
