Kent State WR Dante Cephas Picks Up First Transfer Portal Offer from Pitt

Pitt had to wait until Kent State wide receiver Dante Cephas officially entered the transfer portal, but once he did this afternoon, wide receivers coach Tiquan Underwood struck.

Cephas is a major target for Underwood and Pitt’s coaching staff, and as such, he received his first offer since officially entering the transfer portal earlier today from Pitt.

Cephas, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound wideout from Penn Hills High School in Pittsburgh, was a modestly recruited prospect out of high school, but he’s seen his stock skyrocket after four seasons at Kent State.

Cephas broke out with a 1,240-yard, nine-touchdown performance campaign in 2021, and he followed it up with 48 receptions for 744 yards and three touchdowns this season — in just nine games.

With 130 receptions for 1,984 yards (15.3 yards per reception) and 12 touchdowns over the last two seasons, Cephas has earned back-to-back All-MAC first-team honors at wide receiver.

It’s been a long road for a recruit who originally only received offers from Bowling Green, Eastern Kentucky, Howard, Kent State and Toledo, but he will have two seasons of eligibility at his next location.

With Jared Wayne’s future at Pitt still undecided, Cephas is a potential target (the second MAC transfer in two years following Konata Mumpfield arriving from Akron last season). Mumpfield and Bub Means are both set to return as two-thirds of Pitt’s starting wide receiving corps.

Cephas will be a very highly coveted recruit this time around, so Pitt’s coaching staff is going to have some serious competition. Right after hearing from Pitt, Cephas received an offer from West Virginia.

Maybe coveted but major league quarterback and hometown are a big selling point.
