SOUTH PARK, Pa.— The West Mifflin Titans rolled past the South Park Eagles 35-0 on Friday, with freshman running back Armand Hill continuing his run of recent dominance with a three-touchdown night.
South Park’s offense managed just eight first downs throughout the game, rarely even making it close to midfield. The Titans’ run-heavy attack, meanwhile, left no margin for error.
West Mifflin controlled the pace of play for much of the first quarter with a heavy dose of Hill. It was sophomore running back Darnell Carswell ended up cashing in, though, finishing the drive with a one-yard touchdown tote.
South Park’s offense, on the other hand, couldn’t get much going, as the Eagles went 0-for-5 on third down in the first half.
The Titans doubled their lead in the waning seconds of the first half with a nifty trick play following a timeout. Wide receiver Rich Fix threw to Jose Perez in the end zone for a wide open touchdown, putting West Mifflin up 14-0.
West Mifflin forced another quick stop to open the second half, and a huge punt return put them in plus territory early. Hill scored on a 25-yard rush to put the Titans up 21-0.
Facing fourth-and-14 near midfield with three-star quarterback and Michigan commit Zach Ludwig on the sideline after a big hit, the Eagles tried—unsuccessfully—to pick up the first. West Mifflin hardly needed the short field, as Hill scored his second touchdown of the game soon thereafter.
Hill made it a hat trick midway through the fourth, putting the Titans up 35-0 with a one-yard touchdown.
