Pitt tight ends/special teams coach Jacob Bronowski traveled to Texas during the bye week in order to do some in-person recruiting.

One of the stops he made was at North Crowley High School in Fort Worth, Texas. While there, he watched a practice and a game to focus in one on their top offensive weapons.

Quentin Gibson is a 5-foot-9, 165-pound wideout from North Crowley High School in Fort Worth and is having an eye-opening senior season. In just five games, Gibson has caught 17 touchdown passes.

“I try not and let that number get to my head, I just want to still work hard and get better,” Gibson told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “But it is crazy looking at those numbers.”

Prior to this week, Gibson’s offer list included TCU, UTEP, New Mexico State, Texas Southern, Bowling Green, Arkansas State, Colorado State and Stephen F. Austin. In the last 48 hours, Gibson has received offers from Mississippi State and Pitt.

“The Pitt coaches texted me first and told me last week that they were going to be coming to my school,” Gibson said. “Then they came and before the game, they were talking to me. Coach Bronowski told me that he was going to talk to the head coach and get back to me. Then coach Bronowski FaceTimed me with Coach Bell and the receivers coach and told me that I got the offer from Pitt.

“After getting that news I felt great. The Pitt coaches also told me how I’d be a perfect player for their offense, how exactly I’d fit into their schemes and then we went over my film.”

Gibson said that the Pitt offense is something he’s familiar with since they run the same fast-paced offense in high school.

Gibson is an electric wideout who is taking advantage of the opportunity to showcase his skills on the field. Gibson also credits the chemistry he was able to develop with his quarterback.

“I just waited my turn,” said Gibson. “Last year, I was behind seniors and was just patient and waited my turn. Then in the offseason, me and my quarterback went to the indoors and got some work in. We worked on specific routes, our timing and really building up trust with my quarterback.”

“I’d say the biggest strength of my game is my YAC (yards after catch),” Gibson said. “I’ve always been able to read the defenses and get open, it was just a matter of getting me the ball.”

Since he’s only halfway through his season, Gibson is staying patient in terms of his recruitment. At this time, although he’s thinking about certain places to visit, he doesn’t have any gameday or official visits lined up.

Considering the season that he’s having, Gibson is waiting to see which other schools may get involved before he starts traveling.
