Pitt Coaching Staff Out Recruiting

Published

on

Now that college coaches are able to go visit senior recruits, Pat Narduzzi and his coaching staff are all over the east coast either solidifying relationships or looking for future commitments.

Thru various phone calls, text messages and direct messages (Twitter), here’s what I’ve been able to gather:

*Pitt defensive coaches Josh Conklin, Rob Harley and Renaldo Hill were at Central Catholic this morning visiting current recruits Rashad Wheeler and Bricen Garner.  I’m being told that cornerback Damar Hamlin wasn’t in school this morning. It’s my understanding that Conklin and company hoped to catch up with Hamlin at some point today.

Prior to visiting Central Catholic, I’m told that Conklin paid a visit to Beaver Falls to check in on 2017 DT Donovan Jeter (not able to talk with him because he’s only a junior).

*Head coach Pat Narduzzi is currently in Virginia and plans to have an in-home visit with 2016 DE Patrick Jones.  This is an important visit for Narduzzi because Jones plans on making his decision on Wednesday.  He’ll be deciding between Pitt and Virginia Tech. Jones told me that Narduzzi is due to arrive later this afternoon.  I’ll talk with Jones after the visit.

*Pitt offensive coordinator Jim Chaney and RB/Special teams coach Andre Powell were at Woodland Hills today visiting 2 kids: 1) Miles Sanders and 2) Amon Youngblood.  I talked with Youngblood following the visit and will have a story on him later tonight.  He’s a sleeper prospect (6-3, 330) hoping to land a Pitt scholarship.   Everyone knows the story and situation with Sanders.

**Offensive line prospect Zack Williams tells me that Pitt line coach John Peterson is coming to see him this afternoon .  Williams also told me that he’ll make his official visit to Pitt next weekend.   He’s expected to pick between Pitt and West Virginia.

**McKeesport star safety/running back Khaleke Hudson told me that Pitt defensive coordinator Josh Conklin will visit him on Thursday.

UPDATE (4:15)-

**Pitt offensive line coach John Peterson was in Florida today visiting with OT Zack Williams (6-5, 265) from Citra, Florida. Following the visit, I talked with Williams.

“It was a good time, I felt a connection with Coach Peterson”, said Williams. “He was telling me about the city of Pittsburgh and the facilities, how diverse the city is. I like the thought of being surrounded by Fortune 500 businesses. He also told me a little about the physical therapy program.”

I asked Williams why Pitt is so high on his list. “Pitt is a team on the rise with a very good coaching staff, with a good education. I like the direction that Coach Narduzzi has the team going.”

Williams is expected to pick between Pitt and West Virginia. He’s making his official visit to Pitt next Saturday and to West Virginia in January.  However regarding his visit to Pitt, “hopefully I will feel at home on my visit and if I did, I won’t wait at all,”

According to Williams, “I would say Pitt is #1 on my list right now.”
