Duquesne is serious about getting better in football and today we saw another example of that.
FBSchedules.com is reporting that Duquesne will be traveling to Morgantown on September 9, 2023 to take on the West Virginia Mountaineers.
According to a copy of the contract that FBSchedules.com obtained from West Virginia, they will be paying Duquesne $425,000 for the game.
This is the first game between the two schools since 1935 when the Dukes beat the Mountaineers, 19-0. West Virginia leads the all-time series 4-3-2.
West Virginia’s 2023 non-conference schedule is very interesting as it now includes Duquesne (Sept. 9), at Penn State (Sept. 2) and hosting Pitt (Sept. 16).
The last time the Dukes played a major conference team was in 1950, when Duquesne visited Florida, Louisville and Clemson — beating Louisville — before shuttering the program at the end of the season. Duquesne football returned in 1969 at the club level, then progressed to Division III before playing at the I-AA (now FCS) level in 1993.
Duquesne will play Hawaii this Sept. 23, which will be the first time the Dukes played any FBS team since playing Buffalo in 2014.
