Stephen Schott Commits to Pitt Wrestling

Published

on

Stephen Schott, a senior from renowned wrestling school Nazareth, announced his intentions to attend Pitt on Twitter on Thursday.

Schott is a senior, and will join Mick Burnett, Antonio Petrucelli, and Colby Whitehill as the incoming freshmen this summer. He has a career record of 92-32 with 39 pins. He qualified for the state tournament last year, but did not place. He is currently ranked No. 8 in the state at 220 by FloWrestling.

Wrestling 220 as a senior doesn’t leave him many options in college: either cut down to 197 or stay at heavyweight. On paper at least, Austin Cooley looks like the future at 197 and likewise with Whitehill at 285. Schott will obviously wrestle at his best weight in conjunction with what the team needs, and he will have to beat out some stiff competition to break into the starting lineup.
