Pitt football offensive lineman Trey Andersen placed his name in the transfer portal on Saturday

Pitt football lost another player to the transfer portal on Saturday, as offensive lineman Trey Andersen announced his decision to leave the program with a post on Twitter.

“It’s been an honor to have the opportunity to play here at Pitt,” Andersen wrote in his statement. “I have gained so much experience and have met so many great people. I want to thank coach Duzz for the opportunity to come here and play. With that being said, I have decided to enter the transfer portal with two years of eligibility left.”

Andersen played for Lehi High School in Mountain Eagle, Utah and originally signed on as a member of the Class of 2019 as a tight end. Andersen is a Mormon and chose to spend the 2019 and 2020 seasons on a mission trip.

He would reclassify as a member of the Class of 2021. He redshirted during the 2021 season, played nine games in 2022 and then all 12 games this past season. He served on special teams, working on point after touchdowns and field goals, while also playing as a reserve offensive lineman when needed.

Andersen is the second player for Pitt football to place their name in the transfer portal on Saturday, with wide receiver Addison Copeland III doing so as well. He is also the fourth offensive player to leave the program, with wide receiver Bub Means declaring for the draft and walk-on wide out Lorenzo Jenkins leaving via transfer.

He is the 10 Pitt player to transfer, with seven of the other players came from the defensive side of the ball. This includes linebackers in rising redshirt seniors Brandon George, Bangally Kamara, Aydin Henningham, redshirt senior defensive linemen Deandre Jules and Nate Temple and defensive backs in rising redshirt senior Buddy Mack and rising redshirt junior Stephon Hall.

Rising redshirt senior Long snapper Byron Floyd also announced his decision to transfer on Friday, becoming the first special teams player for Pitt to do so.

Pitt did manage to retain two big time players on offense, with rising senior tight end Gavin Bartholomew, who committed to his final season with the program on Friday and fellow rising senior in running back Rodney Hammond on Saturday.
