Pitt lost its second linebacker this offseason as Aydin Henningham announced Wednesday morning his intention to enter the transfer portal.
Henningham was a member of Pitt’s class of 2020 from Boynton Beach, Fl. and was viewed nationally as a major signing after he selected the Panthers over other offers from Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Louisville, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Nebraska, North Carolina State, Ohio State, South Carolina, Tennessee and UCF.
“I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for the invaluable experiences and support I have received during my time at the University of Pittsburgh. As I enter the transfer portal, I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all the coaches, training staff and the strength coaches for believing in me. Your support contributed to my growth both on and off the field. As I embark on this new chapter, I remain appreciative and look forward to the next steps in my journey. I have decided to enter the transfer portal as a grad transfer. With 2 years left of eligibility, I will pursue my graduate degree and play my last 2 seasons,” said Henningham in a statement.
Despite the lofty expectations, it never worked out for Henningham at Pitt as he bounced around different positions. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound athlete started off as a wide receiver before transitioning to linebacker.
As a true freshman in 2020, Henningham played in six games, all on special teams, and he redshirted in 2021 and missed all of 2022 with an injury. This past season, Henningham did not see the field on the defensive side of the ball. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining at the next college he chooses to attend.
Fellow linebacker Brandon George and safety Buddy Mack have also entered the transfer portal this season, and there will be more additions in the days and weeks ahead.
Awesome, thanks coach.
Great no big names yet
