Pitt appears to be one of the two schools in the hunt for a safety target in the class of 2024.

Jah Jah Boyd — a 5-foot-10, 170-pound three-star recruit out of Roman Catholic High in Philadelphia — announced Sunday night that he will be announcing his collegiate decision Monday afternoon.

Boyd had been committed to JMU since the summer, but with head coach Curt Cignetti leaving for the Indiana job, he re-opened his recruiting process late last month. Pitt jumped into the fold almost immediately afterward, with Pat Narduzzi and Cory Sanders extending an offer on an in-person visit, but it appears two schools will be in the mix.

He’s taken official visits to Indiana and Pitt this month, with his visit to Pittsburgh taking place last weekend — his final one.

Boyd initially committed to JMU over offers from Akron, Boston College, Connecticut, JMU, Liberty, Old Dominion, Penn State, Temple, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest, and with the coaching change, Pitt managed to give itself a chance when it comes to his eventual commitment.

“I like Pitt,” Boyd told PSN. “Think it could be a great situation for me if that’s the way it works out. Play in a great conference, too.”

He’s an Indiana lean, considering his relationship with Cignetti and the IU staff, but Pitt has made it a competition. And it’s clear to see why the coaching staff values his skill set.

Boyd served as a wide receiver, cornerback and safety at Roman Catholic, setting the single-season touchdown reception record as a senior and earning Catholic League MVP honors, but the Pitt staff views him as a safety. His blend of athleticism and ball skills, to go along with an added level of aggression, would be a good fit in the Panthers’ defense.

247Sports rates Boyd as the 1,228th-ranked recruit in the class (121st-ranked safety and 27th-ranked recruit from Pennsylvania) while On3 rates him as the 1,314th-ranked recruit in the class (123rd-ranked cornerback and 38th-ranked recruit from Pennsylvania).

Rivals hasn’t rated Boyd, and he holds a two-star ranking.

Pitt currently holds commitments from three-star cornerback Nigel Maynard and three-star safety Allen Bryant in the class of 2024. National Signing Day is just over two weeks away, and it’s clear that Pitt is looking to potentially supplement the class with another defensive back before then.

Better secure him before Syracuse plunks down a bag of NIL dollars.

Syracuse new Coach is young and great recruiter. His coaching staff is also great recruiters. Pitt in serious trouble. Only one good recruiter in Partridge. Hopefully this young offensive coordinator can recruit. Offensive Line Coach a disgrace and receivers Coach hasn’t impressed anyone. We know Narduzzi ‘s buddy and TE coach is worthless. I think AD realizes Program needs major changes.

We’ll see about that, he had 2 1st rd draft picks to throw to plus osu is loaded with 5 star talent, and he was decent, at Syracuse he’s not going to have that kind of talent around him
