On Saturday, during Pitt’s game against Louisville, wing Zack Austin surpassed the 1,000-point landmark in his career.
He entered the game with 993 career points after scoring 897 in two years at High Point and 96 in his first 14 games with Pitt this year. On Saturday, Austin scored ten of the team’s first 18 points in the game, hitting four of his first seven attempts and two of five three-points tries in the first nine minutes. The High Point transfer has now started 13 games for the Panthers this year in his first year at the high-major level.
He is averaging 6.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game on the year, and after scoring zero points against North Carolina, he has come out aggressively in the Louisville game.
Austin appeared to cut his right hand shortly after surpassing the 1,000-point mark in the game.
An all-Big South performer at High Point, Austin averaged 14+ points per game in both seasons there. As a rookie, he grabbed a career-high eight rebounds per game in addition to shooting 32% from three-point range. He hit at least two three pointers per game on average in both seasons at High Point.
