On Saturday, Pitt’s Ishmael Leggett missed his first game of the season due to a shoulder injury suffered in Pitt’s loss to Syracuse.

In Leggett’s absence, Pitt freshman Jaland Lowe earned his first start of his collegiate career.

Leggett is averaging 12.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game this season in his first year with the Panthers. He transferred in this past summer after beginning his career with Rhode Island playing in the Atlantic 10. The 6-foot-2 guard is shooting 41% from the field and 30% from three-point range this season for the Panthers, starting every game up until this missed game due to injury.

Lowe, a freshman out of Houston, Texas, is averaging 4.9 points and 2.3 assists per game over the season so far, but in his last two games, has improved in an increased role. Lowe had nine points and four assists against Syracuse, and then followed up that performance with ten points and three rebounds and two assists in Pitt’s loss to No. 8 North Carolina.
