A third player has been confirmed that will be making an official visit to check out Dru Joyce and the Duquesne Dukes.

Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned that Samford transfer guard AJ Staton-McCray will be in Pittsburgh this weekend. Staton-McCray will be joined by former Miami 4-star forward AJ Casey and former George Washington guard Maximus Edwards.

Reloading the depth chart at guard will be crucial for Joyce as he’ll need to replace both the productivity and leadership of both Dae Dae Grant and Tre Clark.

Staton-McCray is a 6’5″, 195-pound junior guard that’s played 62 games over the last two seasons at Samford. Last season, he averaged 11.5 points, 4.5 rebounds in just 21 minutes per game. Staton-McCray shot 44.2% from the field and 41.3% from 3-point range.

Stanton-McCray is a name that might sound familiar as he was involved in a controversial call in the just concluded NCAA Tournament. In Samford’s 1st round game against Kansas, he made what appeared to be a clean blocked shot but the referee called a foul, which aided Kansas.

Duquesne's 2024 March Madness Tournament coverage is sponsored by Leon's Billiards & More, Moon Golf Club and Archie's on Carson! Their contributions have allowed us to cover the Dukes run in Omaha, Nebraska. We appreciate their support!
