Former Pitt, Duquesne Players Prospering Following Transfers

Published

on

With the way they’ve all performed this season, Pittsburgh’s three D-1 basketball teams will see their seasons, mercifully, in all likelihood, all end in the next few weeks.

Entering today, Pitt, Duquesne and Robert Morris have a combined overall record of 24-48 and just 13-38 in conference play. No doubt, it will be a long off-season for Jeff Capel, Keith Dambrot and Andy Toole as they look for answers and more importantly, the right players to begin the process of turning their programs around.

With the struggles that these programs are going through, the big question entering the off-season will be how much will the NCAA Transfer portal impact each roster? In the current climate of college basketball, it’s not a question of if, but how many players will transfer. This isn’t just a local issue, it’s something that will impact nearly every team in the country in some fashion.

Players transferring was a huge story last offseason for the three local teams and a major factor for the struggles happening in 2022.

Duquesne fans were reminded of that last night as former Dukes point guard Sincere Carry scored a career-high 42 points in Kent State’s 93-82 win over Ball State. Kent State is now 18-9 and 13-4 in the MAC, which currently puts them in 3rd place.

With Carry’s performance in mind, here’s a look at how the players that transferred from Robert Morris, Duquesne and Pitt last season are doing this season with their new teams.

Duquesne

Sincere Carry, Kent State- 18.5 pts/game (career-high), 4.8 assists, 4.5 rebounds, 37.4 3-point percentage (career-high), 44.9 FG% (career-high) and 36.3 minutes per game (career-high).

Tavian Dunn-Martin, Florida Gulf-Coast– 20.0 pts/game (career-high), 6.3 assists (career-high), 30.4 3-point percentage, 39.5 FG% (career-high) and 33.2 minutes per game (career-high).

Lamar Norman, Western Michigan- 19.7 points (career-high), 3.1 rebounds (career-high), 44% FG (career-high), 37% 3-point percentage and 34.8 minutes per game.

gonna be a a very long off-season an next year too. They just cant get transfers to come . I dont see the different of playing here or at wake forest , Auburn Kansas ,or Texas tech. Id like to know these players reason for not wanting to play at Pitt? There has to be a reason behind it. I thought going to college was to earn an education not just to play a sport.Pitts a great educational school.
