After missing out on Niagara transfer Noah Thomasson, Pitt is back in the transfer portal searching to fill its final two open scholarship spots.
One of the most recent players that the Panthers have targeted is a familiar name to fans of the ACC: Deivon Smith. On Wednesday, Smith told Pittsburgh Sports Now that the Panthers are currently recruiting him.
Smith is a 6-foot-1, 176-pound guard out of Logansville, Georgia who began his collegiate career at Mississippi State prior to transferring to Georgia Tech. He then played two seasons for the Yellow Jackets, averaging 5.7 points per game in year one and then posting eight points per game this past season. the explosive guard also averaged more than five rebounds per contest and shot 44% from two-point range (26% from three) this year.
Since entering the portal on April 20, Smith has heard from a long list of Division One programs, including Utah, Florida, Ole Miss, BYU, and several others. He recently completed an official visit to Utah.
Pitt also recently reached out to Marshall transfer Andrew Taylor, who scored more than 20 points per game this season. This offseason, Pitt has added transfers Ishmael Leggett (Rhode Island) and Zack Austin (High Point) out of the portal after former Panthers John Hugley (Oklahoma) and Nate Santos (Uncommitted) entered. Pitt returns redshirt freshman guard Dior Johnson and also brings in freshmen guards Jaland Lowe and Carlton Carrington this season.
