PITTSBURGH — Pitt will be without one of its top targets — although, certainly an underutilized target — against Boston College Thursday night.
Gavin Bartholomew, who left the Syracuse loss early, did not participate in pregame warmups ahead of kickoff against Boston College, and as he’s wearing a boot on his foot, he will not play against Boston College.
Bartholomew appeared to pick up an injury in the aftermath of Christian Veilleux’s pick-six in the third quarter, needing medical attention in the end zone, and he would eventually leave the field at Yankee Stadium on crutches.
It’s been a tough season for Bartholomew, who did not receive a single target through three quarters at Yankee Stadium, as Pitt has completely collapsed offensively in the second half against the Orange.
Bartholomew has recorded 18 receptions for 326 yards (18.1 yards per catch) with a touchdown this season, but he’s gone without a target in two of the last three games — in what continues to be a confusing usage of Pitt’s most explosive playmaker.
It appears likely that Karter Johnson and Malcolm Epps, and Jake Renda on more obvious passing situations, will receive a heavier workload with Bartholomew out of the lineup.
Johnson, Epps and Renda have combined for 13 receptions this season, serving as a reliable trio behind Bartholomew. But the tight end position has not seemingly been in Frank Cignetti Jr.’s gameplan this season.
Pitt and Boston College will kick off at 7 p.m.
What a raw deal this kid got. Feel bad for him.
He gone.
