Pitt Target Akok Akok Nearing His Decision

Jeff Capel should be finding out soon whether or not his recruiting efforts have resulted in a big man.

Over the last few days, we’ve learned various items regarding three highly rated 2019 forwards that are on Pitt’s radar.

On Wednesday night, Andrew Slater was first with the news that Oak Hill Academy five-star center Kofi Cockburn would be making an official visit to Pitt in the very near future.

Cockburn is high on Pitt because of his relationship with Capel and the opportunity he sees of becoming a focal point in Pitt’s offense.

Then it’s been speculated that 2019 four-star forward Tyrese Samuel is expected to make his choice this weekend. The talented Canadian forward will be choosing between Pitt, Georgetown, Seton Hall and Wake Forest.

Finally, Evan Daniels reported last night that four-star forward Akok Akok has left Putnam Academy and will enroll in college at the semester break.

Akok told Daniels, “Since I have already graduated high school, it makes sense at this point that I study at home for the SAT, which I am officially taking for the first time on December 1.”

Akok is down to five schools: Pitt, Connecticut, Georgetown, Syracuse and Providence.

Pitt has an open scholarship that would allow Akok to play right away if he enrolls in time for the second semester.
