Williams, a 6-foot-3, 175-pound point guard plays for San Ysidro High School in San Diego, and has become one of, if not the, most talked-about freshmen in the country.
Williams will add his Pitt offer to scholarship opportunities from Arizona State, Arkansas, Kansas, Memphis, New Mexico, San Diego, San Diego State Tennessee, Texas Tech, UCLA and USC.
Williams took off after his eight-grade season on the AAU circuit with the Compton Magic, and is widely regarded as the top player in the country in the Class of 2023. Williams is friends with Bronny James, the son of Lakers star LeBron.
As a freshman, Williams was one of the best high school basketball players in Southern California, averaging 30 points per game, seven rebounds and five assists.
Capel has not offered a lot of freshmen before, but it’s been a recent trend for him and the Panthers. He offered Laurel Highlands star Rodney Gallagher in the Class of 2023, as well.
