High school seniors are in the process of making official visits or even committing to a school.

For juniors, it’s the time of the year when they’re hoping to get as many offers as possible.

That’s the case with Clearfield, PA’s Ryan Lezzer.

Lezzer (5-11, 183) is safety/wide receiver that’s looking for his first offer but is taking everything day by by.

“Recruiting is hard at times but I have my older brother who went through this and he helps me get through it and at the end of the day I say offers or no offers I’m blessed and I know my time is coming so it really isn’t to bad”, said Lezzer.

Lezzer doesn’t have any offers today but that could be changing soon.

“Penn State, Pitt, WVU, Stanford, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Temple and Boston College are schools that I talk to most”, said Lezzer. “Penn State (Coach Shoop) visited me at school last Monday and a coach from Stanford is planning on coming by later this week.  I think that Pitt, Temple, Boston College and WVU and Penn State are the schools I’m closest to getting offers from.”

“They all want to come to school to see me in person to get my height and stuff so they can see what position they think will fit me best. All schools pretty much of right now want to evaluate my tape and get me to know the coaches better , before offering.  Schools say they like my versatility, in that I can play WR/DB.  Penn State , WVU and Boston College are mostly recruiting me for safety, all the other schools see me as a wide receiver/athlete.”

I asked Lezzer about Pitt and what kind of interest are they showing.

“Coach Sherman was the first coach I started talking to when I went to camp”, said  Lezzer. ” He noticed me and he sees me as slot wide receiver and then Coach Conklin and me just started talking a couple month ago and he wants to build a relationship with me and get down to Pitt as much as possible. He gives his feedback on the defense and says I have the speed and strength to be a good safety in college”

“An offer from Pitt would be great. It’s definitely one of my top schools, and think their a program on the rise.  And with one my good friends playing for Pitt (Erik Sellers) and my assistant coaches (Myles Caragein) a former captain at Pitt, so an offer would be for sure great. ”

Lezzer tells me that he visited Pitt for the Miami game and was impressed. Says thing that stood out most to him were the facilities and that Pitt went to another level with them.

“My dad is a big Steelers fan so I been to Pittsburgh countless times and love the city. I could easily spend my 4 years there. Having watched so many games as a kid at Heinz Field, to be able to play in it would be a dream come true”, said Lezzer.

While Pitt would be a great offer, so would Penn State.  Lezzer told me about his relationship with them.

“Coach Shoop was telling me how Penn State is on the rise and he wants me a local guy to stay home”, said Lezzer. “He’s telling me to be patient with the process.”

“Coach says my tapes are impressive and I’m gonna start getting offers but he doesn’t want me to jump on any.  He wants me to wait , and says they’re gonna offer me at some point after I come to Junior Day.  That offer would be huge because both my uncles were scholarship players at Penn state. I’ve been around that program my whole life.”

By the looks of things, the fight for Lezzer could end up being a battle between Pitt and Penn State.
