Pitt Continues to Show Interest in 2022 First Love Guard Mason Manning

First Love Academy (Washington, PA) has done a great job the last few years of producing D-I talent, the latest being 2020 3-star wing D.J. Gordon, who signed with Penn State.

Another player that college coaches have their eye on is 2022 3-star point guard Mason Manning, who recently moved to the area from Jackson, Mississippi. The playmaking guard has already received offers from LSU, Mississippi, Baylor, TCU and South Florida.

Could the Pitt Panthers be the next major program to offer?

Only time will tell if Jeff Capel decides to officially offer him, it is clear that he’s on Pitt’s radar. Manning was in attendance Wednesday night at The Pete for the Panthers game against Clemson. This is the second time in February that Manning has been invited to a game by the Pitt coaching staff.

Pittsburgh Sports Now caught up with Manning this morning to ask him about the evening and the relationship that’s developing between him and the Pitt program.

“I felt the night went good,” Manning tells PSN. “I love the energy that the Pitt team and the Pitt fans bring and I love the coaches at Pitt. It was just a tough loss.”

Manning is getting recruited by assistant coach Jason Capel and although an offer hasn’t happened yet, the sophomore guard hopes he gets one in the near future.

“They’ve just been telling me that they think I’m a good guard, they like the way I shoot and really want me to come here,” said Manning. “They’ve been talking to me a little bit about an offer but nothing official yet. If an offer from Pitt comes, I feel that would be a great opportunity.”

As far as the strengths of his game, Manning tells PSN that he’d describe them as his shooting and ability to make plays in transition and calls himself a good defender.
