Peters Twp S Donovan McMillon Releases Top 10, Pitt Not Included

on

The recruitment of Class of 2021 Peters Township safety Donovan McMillon has been one of the major storylines of 2020 in WPIAL football, and on Friday, he narrowed his list of suitors to 10 final schools, after receiving over 40 FBS offers.

McMillon announced on Friday evening that his top 10 will include Arizona State, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech.

McMillon hopes to visit as many of his top 10 schools as possible and broke down his options for Pittsburgh Sports Now.

Arizona State: Coach Herman Edwards and co-DC’s Marvin Lewis and Antonio Pierce continue to impart their defensive knowledge on me through Zoom practice/game clips, and FaceTime Chalk Talks. They’ve done a great job showing the role that I’d have defensively and I’m loving it more and more everyday.

Florida: Three of my aunts attended Florida State and are die-hard alumni, so you can obviously assume the friendly competitiveness once the Gators offered me. I tend to be more of a warm weather guy so U of F has piqued my interest. Coach Ron English has defined my defensive purpose for this team … shut down the rest of the SEC by land and by sea.

Georgia: Coach Smart and the University of Georgia Bulldogs play defense the right way: relentless and unforgiving! I love the way they compete. … According to them, there’s only one way to play….DOWN HILL!

LSU: One of my favorite players of all time helped make this university DBU! Coach Busch has been consistent on what he wants in a safety … a player that is aggressive, a ballhawk, and always puts themselves in a position to succeed. That’s one of the reasons that they are the current national champs.

Michigan: Coach Harbaugh and his staff have been there since near the beginning and I really appreciate that. They make me feel like I’m a part of the Wolverine family every time we speak. I’m very impressed with their academics and what they have to offer in the fields that have sparked my interest.

Oklahoma: Every time I speak to Coach Riley and his staff, I can see myself more and more playing in Oklahoma City. The virtual tour of their facilities, academic department, and residential housing was well organized and on point.

Oregon: A few weeks ago I did not know very much about Eugene, Oregon … and then Coach Cristobal and his staff quickly changed all that. The defensive staff has carved out exactly where they want me to play specifically and it’s SOOOOO me! The green and yellow colors are beyond growing on me … they’re slowly but surely starting to make an appearance in my closet.

Penn State ‘We Are!’ This school is the closest one left to my family and every day their staff’s making a stronger and stronger argument why I shouldn’t leave my home state. HC Franklin and Coach Smith have both been an integral part of that. Playing for the Blue and White on a Saturday at noon against another Big 10 opponent is beginning to just make sense.

Texas A&M It’s becoming harder and harder to find reasons NOT to play for Coach Jimbo Fisher, in Texas, along with the 12th Man, at College Station, in an Aggie uniform. The strong academics combined with the high level of competition continues to push the narrative in their favor.

Virginia Tech The Hokies just get it and that’s why they easily complete my Top Ten. Every call, FaceTime, and zoom meeting feels like I’m literally in Blacksburg. HC Fuente, Coach Hamilton and the defensive staff have an iron-clad plan for me defensively and are patiently waiting for me to pull the trigger.

Notably, the closet team to McMillon, Pitt, was not included in his top 10 list. McMillon told PSN that he prefers to attend a school farther away from home.

Oh well. There will never be college football again. This whole recruiting thing etc is in vain. All governors have stripped of our rights. Sports are no longer relevant

Oklahoma plays in Norman not Oklahoma City. Do your research… good luck to you… where ever your journey leads you….

Why waste energy wondering why some 17 year old kid doesn’t want to go to Pitt? Focus on the recruits who want to be a Panther. By including Pitt in his top 10 for appearances, he would’ve wasted the staff’s time trying to get him on board when he really had no interest. Recruiting is sales and the second best thing to a “yes” is a quick no. Move on. H2P!

Yes. Happy Valley is far away. The further the better. PSU football karma was born in a shower with children. GO FOR IT

I really don’t get it! In the last 30 years, compare the top LOCAL recruits who go to Pitt, and even PSU and get drafted, to the pre-Madona’s who think they are better than what they are, and get lured away by BS. Over 75% don’t even get drafted. The local coaches try to do what they can to help the local kids, but some kids just don’t get it, until it’s too late. I can name dozens. STAY HOME AND BE GREAT or GO FAR AWAY AND GET LOST IN THE CROWD!

This whole recruitment reminds me of that kid from Clairton a few years back that was the big national recruit DB that everyone wanted. He picked PSU and hasn’t been heard from since.

Kalik Hudson was a stud coming out of HS! He was one of the best safeties I’ve seen in a while. He went to Michigan and starts as a Freshman but never progressed from there. He should have been a 1st round NFL pick. Having support is EVERYTHING, talent only takes you so far. Robert Foster is another example of top level talent who got lost. Compare that to Paris Ford, Aaron Donald, Tyler Boyd, and on and on. Paris is awesome, but he has had A LOT of coaches support at Pitt to get him to the next level.… Read more »

Yep

Every year ND sneaks in and gets a “top” WPIAL recruit and they are never seen or heard from again.

Yes they do! I forgot about the top 5 rated QB in the country. Where is he now?
When A. Morelli turned his back on Pitt (W. Harris) at the last minute, to go play for PSU and Jay Paterno (QB coach), I knew recruiting isn’t about what’s best for the kids. He was better in 11th grade than his Sr. year at PSU. I knew Jay Paterno could’t develop a QB to save his life. Walt Harris or Jay Paterno??? Walt may not have been a great head coach but he did develop a lot of QBs.

Nothing to see here…just another overrated 3/4 star who thinks he is better than he really is. Didn’t have a major offer until PITT offered in November. Whatever…let’s watch him go to a “better” program so he can sit on the bench for 2-3 years and be forgotten.

This. Typically the first big offer at least stays in the hunt till the end. For Pitt to not at least get included in top 10 is a bit of a slap in the face. Stay home and be a big fish in a little pond ( Paris Ford) or spread your wings and be surrounded by 5 stars. I wish the young man well but we’ve seen this story play out before ( add Lamont Wade to this list too)
