Highly-Coveted ECU Transfer Jayden Gardner Commits to Virginia

On Monday, one of the most talented and experienced players in the transfer portal made his decision on where he would call home next.

Former East Carolina standout Jayden Gardner made his pledge to commit to Tony Bennett and Virginia, after releasing a final list that included Virginia, LSU, Arkansas, NC State, and Miami. In three years at ECU, Gardner scored over 1400 points and grabbed more than 700 rebounds. The 6-foot-7, 235-pound forward dominated his competition in the AAC, and will now be taking his talents to the ACC.

“It’s really been overwhelming, Gardner told Pittsburgh Sports Now a few weeks ago after hearing from countless programs in the portal. “Obviously I went through the recruiting process before but this is now on a national level and everyone is trying to be involved. It’s a crazy feeling but you can never take for granted being wanted so that’s why I’ve been open to talk to any program that wants to talk to me. It’s really a blessing to be on this stage and to be able to play college basketball.”

Pitt made its own run to try and land Gardner, as the forward had a zoom call with the entire staff just ten days ago. However, in the end, he chose to take his talents to Pitt’s ACC-foe Virginia, where he will undoubtedly be a force for Bennett.
