On Wednesday, Keith Dambrot and the Duquesne staff received some more good news as three-star 2021 point guard prospect Jackie Johnson committed to the program.

Johnson attends Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia, and held offers from St. Bonaventure, East Carolina, Coastal Carolina, Montana State and North Texas prior to his commitment to the Dukes

“With Duquesne, I started talking with them a couple of weeks ago,” Johnson told Pittsburgh Sports Now in an interview on April 5. “I’ve talked with Coach Dambrot a whole lot, also with Coach (Rick) McFadden and Coach Charles (Thomas). I like Duquesne, it seems like a really good place, they’re in a really good conference and I look forward to continuing to build my relationship with them.

“They’re telling me that they’d like me to come in and make a big impact right away. They want me to be someone that can get everyone involved, score a lot and play good defense. I just think the whole situation at Duquesne is good, like I said good coaches, solid conference, Pittsburgh is a great city and they play a good style of basketball.”

Johnson is a strong guard with broad shoulders and great balance. A high-level scorer, Johnson can score it from all three levels and is an excellent three-point shooter. In a recent scrimmage against Oak Hill Academy, Johnson lit up the score sheet for his Hargrave squad, dropping 54 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.

For the Dukes, Johnson will share the floor with Tavian Dunn-Martin, who recently announced he was returning for another season in Pittsburgh.
