SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Pitt has won 10 games in the regular season for the seventh time in program history and the first time in 40 years with Saturday’s 31-14 win over Syracuse.

The Panthers last won 10 games in the regular season in 1981, when the Dan Marino-led Panthers finished 10-1 on their way to a Sugar Bowl victory and 11-1 overall record.

Pitt finished 11-1 with a bowl win in 1979 and 1980. The 1976 Panthers are the only team to win 12 games, finishing 12-0 with a Sugar Bowl win and a National Championship.

The Panthers also won 10 games in the pre-bowl era twice, finishing 10-0 in 1904 and 10-2 in 1905.

Pitt won 10 games in 2009, using a Meineke Car Care Bowl win to eclipse the double-digit total after a 9-3 regular season.

Clemson is hitting its stride. I think it’s a pretty nice break that Pitt gets wake forest instead of Clemson. They should be favored snd I expect them to take care of business.

In August, I predicted 10 wins but didn’t expect one to be Clemson. Great regular season. Congratulations
