Pat Narduzzi Attends WPIAL Basketball Game Loaded With Talent

It may be basketball season in the WPIAL, but Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi is still out looking for top talent across the area.

With Laurel Highlands hosting Belle Vernon Wednesday night, a couple of top recruits in the class of 2022, 2023 and 2024 were on the basketball court at Laurel Highlands High School, and Narduzzi was in attendance.

Laurel Highlands’ star Rodney Gallagher is the top-ranked recruit in Pennsylvania in the class of 2023, and before he decided to focus on football, he was the top-ranked basketball recruit too. After leading the Mustangs to the WPIAL playoffs in the fall, he’s helped lead his basketball team to an 11-0 start — averaging just over 17 points per game.

Belle Vernon stars Devin Whitlock (2022 athlete) and Quinton Martin (2024 athlete) led the Leopards to a WPIAL championship game appearance in the fall, and that carried over to the basketball court as the Belle Vernon jumped out to a 13-0 start before meeting Laurel Highlands.

Gallagher has picked up a Pitt offer, having initially formed a bond with former wide receivers coach Brennan Marion, and he’s been heavily targeted by Pitt’s staff in the next class.

Pitt was the first program to offer Martin, during his freshman season at Belle Vernon, and he’s grown into a four-star recruit who ranks among the top 2024 recruits in Pennsylvania.

Whitlock earned a preferred walk-on offer from Pitt back in October, and he’s currently uncommitted as a recruit from the class of 2022.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Brad Everett also reported that Penn State head coach James Franklin and associate head coach Terry Smith were both in attendance at Laurel Highlands. Penn State has also heavily recruited Gallagher and Martin.

Great local talent. No Offensive Co’ordinator or Wide Receiver Coach. These recruits notice.

News flash: Recruits notice that Pitt hired Frank Cigmetti as their offensive coordinator and that his philosophy is to get the ball in his playmakers’ hands.

Choose Pitt. The program is definitely on the upswing. A real chance to make the Top-10, have a clear path to the NFL, and play in front of your families.
