This Week in Pitt Hoops: Roster Updates, New Coach Added, Summer League Invites

This week in Pitt hoops was one with news on several different fronts.

NEW STAFFER

Pitt announced the hiring of Billy Hubly as Assistant AD of Scouting.

Hubly played ball for Saint Francis (NAIA) in Joliet, Illinois, and has since had coaching stops at Georgia Tech, East Carolina, and most recently South Florida. He served as Director of Player Development there, before most recently working as the Video and Social Media Coordinator for the Bulls.

His role at Pitt was previously held by Jake Presutti (now an assistant coach at Buffalo).

NEW WALK-ON

Pitt added a new walk-on to the roster this week.

Benjamin Mayhew, a. 6-foot-4 guard out of Braddock Hills (PA), has joined Pitt’s team. He was a 1,000+ point scorer at Braddock Hills, He is joined on the roster by Vason Stevenson (sophomore walk-on) and KJ Marshall (senior walk-on).

Pitt walk on Benjamin Mayhew (Yellow) with other members of the Pitt team and AD Heather Lyke, per Pitt Basketball on Twitter.

JERSEY NUMBERS

Pitt released its jersey numbers for this upcoming season.

No. 1 – Dior Johnson (RS Freshman)

No. 2 – Blake Hinson (Senior)

No. 4 – Papa Amadou Kante (Freshman)

No. 5 – Ishmael Leggett (Junior)

No. 7 – Carlton Carrington (Freshman)

No. 11 – Marlon Barnes Jr. (Freshman)

No. 12 – KJ Marshall (Senior Walk On)

No. 13 – Benjamin Mayhew (Freshman Walk On)

No. 15 – Jaland Lowe (Freshman)

No. 21 – Vason Stevenson (Sophomore Walk On)

No. 24 – William Jeffress (Redshirt Junior)

No. 25 – Guillermo Diaz-Graham (Sophomore)

No. 31 – Jorge Diaz-Graham (Sophomore)

No. 33 – Federiko Federiko (Junior)

No. 55 – Zack Austin (Redshirt Junior)

PORTAL ACTIVITY

Pitt still has one scholarship available for this upcoming season.

Two prospects that the staff had previously contacted committed elsewhere this week: Joe Toussaint (West Virginia/Texas Tech) and Paul Mulcahy (Rutgers/Washington).

HS RECRUITING

Pitt’s staff was reportedly out recruiting at Peach Jam, watching several games this week. One of which being a game involving the NY Renaissance, a program which Pitt has heavily recruited in recent years.

SUMMER LEAGUE

Pitt currently has four former players competing in NBA Summer League: Justin Champagnie (Celtics), Nike Sibande (Mavericks), Mo Gueye (Raptors), and Au’Diese Toney (Magic).

Champagnie: Champagnie kicks off his Summer League season on Saturday, July 8 at 3:00 p.m. on NBA TV.

Sibande: Sibande kicks off his Summer League season on Saturday, July 8 at 3:30 p.m. on ESPN2.

Gueye: Kicks off his Summer League campaign on Friday, July 7, at 6:30 p.m. against the Bulls on NBA TV.

Toney: Kicks off his Summer League campaign on Saturday, July 8, at 5:30 p.m. on ESPN.
