Aliquippa FB sophomore Dahvea Sparrow was shot and killed Saturday night

Aliquippa football lost a member of their team Saturday night, as rising sophomore Dahvea Sparrow was killed in a shooting in his hometown on Saturday.

The 15-year-old left a house party Saturday night and was killed around 11:20 p.m. at Knoll Street and Main Street in Aliquippa. The shooting occurred almost directly across the street from Aliquippa High School.

“Dahvea Sparrow was my one and only son. My baby,” his mother, Nicole Sparrow, said through tears on Sunday. “That was my only baby and I got to plan his funeral.”

Aliquippa mayor Dwan Walker said he coached Sparrow in football for four years.

“We don’t just know this family, we know them,” Walker said at a press conference Sunday morning. “We cry with them. We suffer with them. But listen, bring closure. If you know something, say something. Quit sitting around harboring people that don’t have the right to be around here. This is our community.”

Sparrow was listed as a running back and linebacker on the 2022 Aliquippa football roster, as the Quips won their second consecutive WPIAL title.

Beaver County Crime Solvers are offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to a conviction. This offer only stands for one week. The offer also allows the caller to remain anonymous and that the information will remain confidential.

There is a GoFundMe for the family of Sparrow, as members of the community are asking for donations to support them.
