Pitt football linebacker Nick Lapi earned a scholarship and is no longer a walk on

PITTSBURGH — Big news from Pitt football practice Tuesday at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, as redshirt sophomore linebacker Nick Lapi is now on scholarship and no longer a walk-on.

Lapi spoke about receiving the scholarship ahead of the 2023 season, what it means to him and what he’ll contribute to the team going forward.

Freshman defensive back Cruce Brookins, who attended Steel Valley, spoke on his relationship with Pittsburgh Central Catholic and Pitt Class of 2024 defensive lineman commit Ty Yuhas. He also talked about his relationship with his fellow defensive backs, and his matchups with the four freshmen wide receivers in Israel Polk, Lamar Seymore, Kenny Johnson and Zion Fowler-El.

Redshirt freshman linebacker Kyle Louis also talked to the media on Tuesday. He mentioned his relationship with Nick Lapi, as they are both from New Jersey and how he’s grown with the linebackers ahead of the Wofford game on Saturday, Sept. 2.
