Following a standout performance in the opener on Saturday, Duquesne defensive back Ayden Garnes has been named the Prime Performer by the Northeast Conference.
Just two snaps into the game, Garnes intercepted a pass and took it back 27 yards for a touchdown to give Duquesne a 7-0 lead.
This interception by Garnes was one of five Duquesne takeaways for the game against Edinboro.
Along with the interception, Garnes also recorded a pass breakup, 2 tackles and a tackle for loss.
Garnes is a redshirt sophomore from Monsignor Bonner High School in Philadelphia.
Last season as a redshirt freshman, Garnes played in 10 games for the Dukes and started the final seven games at cornerback. During that time, Garnes recorded 33 tackles, 2 interceptions, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble.
Garnes and the Duquesne defense will face their biggest challenge of the season this Saturday as they take on West Virginia in Morgantown.
