The CW Network broadcasted their first ever college football game with Pitt and Cincinnati battling it out in the River City Rivalry last Saturday at Acrisure Stadium.

The game featured some poor quarterback back play from Panthers redshirt senior Phil Jurkovec and the defense allowed more than 200 yards of rushing. The Bearcats took advantage of that and stopped a late comeback from the Panthers to come out victorious, 27-21.

While the game didn’t end in the way that Pitt and its fanbase wanted it to, playing in the first ever game on the CW Network isn’t a bad thing to claim. Although, a better performance by Pitt might’ve been something that they would’ve wanted more so.

The River City Rivalry drew in a 0.32 rating and 617 thousand viewers, according to sportsmediawatch.com., placing the game at No. 18 for Week 2. The game also had the third most viewers for an ACC school last weekend, with only Miami-Texas A&M and Notre Dame-NC State coming in with more viewers.

The game didn’t compare in viewers to the more sought-after games, like the Texas-Alabama matchup on ESPN, but it did well compared to Charlotte-Maryland on NBC, with that game only having a 0.43 rating and 665 thousand viewers. The rivalry also did better in terms of the 18-49 age demographic than the Charlotte-Maryland game, according to the CW Network.

Pitt will once again play on primetime television this weekend, as they face off against rival West Virginia in the Backyard Brawl. The time for the game is set at 7:30 p.m. and on ABC, the first game on the network for Pitt since they took on Tennessee last season at home in Week 2.

The return of the rivalry to Saturday night, since it was Thursday night in Week 1 in 2022, may see the highest viewership for a Pitt game in a long time.

Tuned into Danny Calvalcante giving the PA State Smokies a run for their Money, like viewing Dukes of Hazard.

That’s a great number for a first broadcast on CW and going up against Texas/Alabama.
