Pitt has continued to look throughout the WPIAL for new recruits, making Latrobe linebacker Alex Tatsch the sixth player in the Class of 2025 in Western Pa. they offered on Monday.

Tatsch received a call from Panthers linebackers coach Ryan Manalac on Monday who told him that he’d like to be his future position coach. Standing at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, Tatsch has already received offers from Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Liberty, Virginia Tech, Boston College, West Virginia, Marshall and UConn.

“Getting an offer from Pitt is pretty cool,” Tatsch told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “I’ve always watched Pitt growing up and it’s obviously pretty close to home. I’ll admit, it was pretty exciting when they called me. Coach [Manalac] messaged me that he had some news and wanted to call me. During our call, they said that they want me to come back up soon and I’m looking forward to it for sure.”

Tatsch has excelled as a junior this season, making 65 tackles, 27 solo, 4.0 sacks and three interceptions. He has also conrtibuted on offense, rushing 32 times for 263 yards and four touchdowns, while also making six catches for 94 yards and a touchdown. His great play has led Latrobe to a 6-2 overall record and 4-1 in the Class 4A Big Seven Conference in 2023.

“We’ve been talking a bit off and on, I haven’t been talking to them too much during the season until now,” Tatsch said. “I think they were waiting to see some things in my game before offering. They must have saw them and decided to pull the trigger.”

In terms of his style of play, Tatsch is the prototypical linebacker, who excels at reading the play and stuffing the run. One linebacker that Tatsch watches in order to improve his game is San Francisco’s Fred Warner, who made the Pro Bowl and earned NFL First-Team honors in 2022.

“I think I read the opposing offenses well,” Tatsch said. “I came down hard. A lot of the colleges that are recruiting me, say they like the length that I have and say that they see a frame that they can build on. I believe that I can cover well, too.”

Being that he’s only a junior and that a majority of these offers have come in recently, Tatsch said that he’s still taking the recruiting process in and is going to be patient before making any sort of college decision.

“I’m still not certain about what school I might choose and decide to go to,” Tatsch said. “After the season is over, I’m going to really start to try and figure things out. Hopefully by next summer, I’ll have some idea of where I’ll end up.”

Alex Tatsch visited Wisconsin this past weekend, where they offered him, Penn State for their “White Out” game on Sept. 24 and then West Virginia on Sept. 17 for their victory over Pitt in the Backyard Brawl. He also visited West Virginia prior to their Spring Game back in April.

Tatsch said he has plans to visit West Virginia and Penn State before the end of 2023.
