Where do Pitt’s Freshmen Rank Among ACC’s Rookies?

Pitt basketball will undoubtedly lean on its young freshmen this season, as the Panthers lost several key veterans to the professional level last year.

Both Carlton Carrington and Jaland Lowe are expected to play major roles for Pitt this year, while Marlon Barnes Jr. will likely come off the bench at a crowded wing position and Papa Amadou Kante is sidelined for the year with a knee injury.

Let’s take a look at the best freshmen in the league and where Carrington and Lowe fit into the conversation.  The following list is in order, from highest to lowest, of 247 Sports Composite recruiting ranking. These are all of the freshmen in the ACC ranked in the top 130. Check out the full rankings here.

Elliot Cadeau – North Carolina

Cadeau was ranked as the No. 11 player in the country according to the 247 Sports Composite. The five-star guard will have a big role for the Tar Heels.

Jared McCain – Duke

McCain is another five star who will certainly be in the Blue Devils’ rotation. The 6-foot-2 combo guard had a stellar prep career in California.

Sean Stewart – Duke

Stewart is another five-star headed Jon Scheyer’s way. 6-foot-8 forward.

Caleb Foster – Duke

Foster is the third Duke five star on the list, coming to Durham as the No. 19 player in the nation. He’s a 5-foot-5 guard.

TJ Power – Duke

Power was a late-blooming forward who Pitt reached out to as he was exploding on the recruiting scene. The Worcester Academy product is a 6-foot-9 forward who was ranked as a five-star prospect.

Dennis Evans – Louisville

Evans was the No. 27 player in the nation, per 247’s composite. Evans is a 7-foot-1 big man.

Carey Booth – Notre Dame

Booth, the son of Denver Nuggets GM Calvin Booth, is a 6-foot-10 forward who was the No. 59 player in the class, per 247 Sports’ composite.

Elijah Gertrude – Virginia

Gertrude, a 6-foot-3 guard out of Hudson Catholic (NJ), was ranked as the No. 63 overall prospect in 2023.

Zayden High – North Carolina

High is a 6-foot-9, 225-pound rookie forward for the Tar Heels. Ranked as the No. 70 prospect in 2023.

Taylor Bol Bowen – FSU

Bowen is a 6-foot-9 forward out of basketball powerhouse Brewster Academy. No. 73 nationally.

Kaleb Glenn – Louisville

Glenn is a physically-imposing wing out of Louisville Male and La Lumiere. No. 75 nationally.

Blake Buchanan – Virginia

Buchanan is a 6-foot-11 forward out of Idaho who ill fill into UVA’s back court behind transfer Jordan Minor.

Curtis Williams Jr. – Louisville

Williams, out of Bloomfield Hills, MI, was ranked as the No. 79 prospect in the class.

Ty-Laur Johnson – Louisville

Johnson, a former Pitt target prior to Lowe’s commitment, was ranked as the No. 80 prospect in the class.

Jaland Lowe – Pitt

Lowe, out of Houston, checked in at No. 82 in the composite rankings.

Carlton Carrington – Pitt

Carrington, a Baltimore native, is ranked as the No. 119 player in the class, per 247 Sports’ Composite.

Parker Friedrichsen – Wake Forest

Friedrichsen was ranked as the No. 124 player in the nation, coming out of Bixby, Oklahoma. He’s a lanky 6-foot-3 guard.

Dennis Parker Jr. – NC State

Parker, out of John Marshall (VA), is a 6-foot-6 wing who was ranked as a four-star (No. 126) prospect.

Pitt’s freshman will be coached by a coach rated as Tier 5 by The Athletic. There are 7 tiers. Pretty much scraping the bottom of power conference coaches.

Narduzzi is a whiny bi$%h though. Whether the slide rule needs changed, deion doing it wrong, psu won’t play pitt & runs a hs offense, officials are all out to get pitt, nil, transfer portal, etc. He’s complained mightily. He has done nothing but throw kedon slovis under the bus. Despite nearly getting him killed in the tenn game. The felons I can give you. But he is an awful recruiter. Somehow he couldn’t piggyback an acc championship to better recruiting classes. And now pitt is a laughingstock and can’t even beat a team playing a qb whose never played… Read more »
