PITTSBURGH — Pitt basketball has a 3-0 start for the first time since the 2018-19 season and have built off of their NCAA Tournament appearance from last season.
Head coach Jeff Capel and freshman guard Jaland Lowe both spoke to the media at the Petersen Events Center on Wednesday about the upcoming Jacksonville game on Friday. Capel spoke on the improvements Pitt needs to make from the win over Florida Gulf Coast Monday night and what he expects to see from a feisty, Jacksonville squad. Lowe talked about adjusting to the college game and how he hopes to improve as the season goes along.
I like Capel. He is a good person and a good teacher. Unfortunately, his coaching tenure and success here is taking longer than fans want and hasn’t resulted in tons of wins yet. He started off fast with a great 2018 first recruiting class (highest ranked until this season) in limited time after he arrived. No one predicted that the group wouldn’t be able to gel and play well together. Everyone also was wowed by X’s frosh performance but then, he never could match it.
