Update (4:25 p.m.)-
Shady Side Academy Class of 2027 athlete Carter Bonner received an offer from West Virginia Friday afternoon. He also holds offers from Pitt, Penn State and UNLV. Bonner just finished up his freshman season and demonstrated his athleticism and skills on both sides of the ball at wide receiver and defensive back, with more offers soon to come.
Update (4:10 p.m.)-
Class of 2025 Latrobe quarterback/safety John Wetzel received an offer from WVU Friday afternoon. He visited West Virginia in October when they took on Oklahoma State and he also holds offers from Boston College, Cincinnati.
Wetzel made 52 total tackles, 21 solo, two tackles for loss, three interceptions, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery at safety last season. He also completed 70-of-119 passes for 1,194 yards and 14 touchdowns to three interceptions, while rushing 136 times for 989 yards and 15 touchdowns at quarterback in 2023.
Update (2:55 p.m.)-
Class of 2027 West Mifflin running back Armand Hill received an offer from West Virginia Friday afternoon. Hill has three Power 5 offers along with Pitt and Penn State and five Division I offers with UNLV and Bowling Green as well.
Hill made headlines when he rushed for 495 yards and five touchdowns in the victory over Hopewell on Oct. 20. West Mifflin states that he rushed for 499 yards, but either way, it is still the second most rushing yards ever in a WPIAL game since Mapletown running back Dylan Rush ran for 527 yards in a 48-32 victory over Avella in 2017, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
He had touchdown runs of seven yards, 26 yards, 40 yards, 61 yards and 75 yards. He possesses attributes of all great running backs, such as his blistering pace and strength to break off tackles, but what separates truly Hill from other running backs his age is his vision. He had patience once he received the hand off and moved through tight spaces to create room between him and his defenders, allowing his speed to take over and a great performance overall against the Vikings.
His performances helped West Mifflin win their final four games of the regular season and a 5-1 record in the WPIAL Class 3A Western Hills Conference. West Mifflin made it to the WPIAL 3A Quarterfinals, where they lost to Elizabeth Forward 42-21 on Nov. 10. He also made the MaxPreps All-American Second Team for his performance this past season.
Update (2:40 p.m.)-
Class of 2025 West Mifflin defensive tackle/offensive tackle Jaiden Brown-Demery earned an offer from West Virginia Friday afternoon. This is the second Division I offer for Brown-Demery, who received a scholarship from Bowling Green. Division II program Slippery Rock also offered him.
Standing at 6-foot-4 and 345 pounds, Brown-Demery is a force on both sides of the ball, making important tackles and sacks at defensive tackle and protecting the quarterback at offensive tackle.
Update (11:30 p.m.)-
Former Gateway athlete Steven Jenkins announced his decommitment from Bowling Green Friday morning, reopening his recruitment. Jenkins played for Gateway as a senior after playing for Woodland Hills as a junior. He held offers from Maine and UNLV and made visits to Kent State, Akron and hometown Pitt.
