Pitt has found the man to replace long-time offensive line coach Dave Borbely.

Pitt has hired Western Carolina offensive line coach Jeremy Darveau to fill the same position for the Panthers, Pat Narduzzi announced Tuesday. It will be Darveau’s first Power Five coaching opportunity.

Dave Borbely was relieved of his duties after six seasons last week, one of three offensive staffers (himself, Andre Powell and Tim Salem) to be let go, and Darveau is part of a youth movement on the offensive coaching staff.

Darveau, 43, has ties with new offensive coordinator Kade Bell dating back to their time together at Valdosta State (D2) during the national championship run in 2018.

He spent the last two seasons working at Western Carolina under Bell, mentoring an offensive line that has helped the Catamounts to one of the best offenses in the FCS. According to his bio, he’s helped develop 25 All-Conference players, five All-Americans and produced eight NFL Draft picks.

Darveau has spent time at Southern Miss (2021), Missouri State (2020) and USF (2019) during his young coaching career, serving as an offensive line coach at all three stops.

Darveau played his college ball at Louisville, lettering as an offensive tackle in 2004 and 2005, before trying his luck in the NFL Europe branch and the Arena Football League.

As a South Carolina native, who has spent some years coaching down south, his recruiting area could wind up down south. But it remains to be seen at this point.

Darveau is one of the newest offensive coaches, joining Bell and new tight ends coach/special teams coordinator Jacob Bronowski and running backs coach Lindsey Lamar.

I’m particularly happy with the apparent youth movement. I’m always hopeful about PITT football. But, it looks like the 3 and 9 didn’t go unnoticed. I like the fact that these young men are ascending and not established coaches. When’s the Spring Game?

Agreed. Solid mix of young, energetic coaches…well done thus far.
