Pitt’s dominant 86-59 win over Louisville on Saturday night was another huge win for the team’s NET ranking.
Heading into the matchup, Pitt was ranked as the No. 54 team in the NET rankings. Now, Pitt is all the way up to No. 47 in the rankings. The Panthers’ stunning climb in these rankings over the past month has been ever-important for their NCAA Tournament hopes.
The Panthers beat Louisville in overwhelming fashion behind 41 points from leader Blake Hinson. With the win, Pitt moved into a tie for fourth place in the ACC with a 17-8 overall record and an 8-6 mark in conference play.
Pitt’s next game will come on Tuesday night at Wake Forest, the No. 39 team in the NET. This makes for a Quad 1 opportunity, which would be another massive win for Pitt to add to its resume.
MAGIC NUMBER: 37
In the past three years, no team ranked inside the top-37 of the NET on Selection Sunday has missed the NCAA Tournament field. Pitt did make the tournament last year with a ranking of No. 67, making that team one of the lowest-ranked NET teams to make the Big Dance in recent history. Check out this graphic from The Portal Report‘s Matt Kraemer on the 10-worst NET ranked teams to get an at-large bid to the tournament in the past three years.
CURRENT NET RESUME
17-8 overall
6-2 road record
10-5 home record
1-1 neutral-court record
Quad 1: 2-4
Quad 2: 2-2
Quad 3: 5-2

UPCOMING OPPORTUNITIES
The Panthers have six games remaining this season, and at this point in time, those games will have the following Quad/NET implications:
@ Wake Forest: Quad 1
Vs. Virginia Tech: Quad 2
@ Clemson: Quad 1
@ Boston College: Quad 3
Vs. Florida State: Quad 3
Vs. NC State: Quad 3
Was surprised nc state was quad 3
Yup, and NC St justpicked up a Quad 1 with their win yesterday at Clemson
Pitt and coach Chappel need to stay focused. They haven’t accomplished anything yet. With 6 games left, Pitt needs to go at least 4-2.
Have to disagree. They need to win 5 of the last 6.
UVA getting blown-out by VA Tech is not going to help Pitt’s NET.
