PITTSBURGH — Pitt men’s basketball head coach Jeff Capel, guard Ishmael Leggett and forward Zack Austin spoke following the Panthers’ 83-64 win over Gardner Webb at the Petersen Events Center on Monday.

Capel discussed the Panthers win and facing a zone defense for the first time this season. Capel admitted that the zone slowed down Pitt, but it found a way to pick up its pace as the game progressed.
He also touched on the two-way play of Leggett, the bench impact of Austin and freshman wing Amsal Delalic’s collegiate debut.
Pitt opened the game strong reaching double digits early with multiple pieces contributing offensively, including Leggett. He finished with a game-high 21 points, along with six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Austin was a factor off the bench, registering 10 points offensively, while adding four key blocks in the win.
Pitt improves to 3-0 before heading into a rivalry matchup against the West Virginia Mountaineers in the Backyard Brawl. Tip is set for 8 p.m. on Friday.
