Mike Asti argues why a ring would make Aaron Donald the greatest Pitt product player in NFL history. Asti goes over why Donald is building a legacy that surpasses Ditka, Marino, Fitzgerald and Dorsett’s.
Larry is great, but Donald is arguably ranked better at his position historically than Fitz. Even if you have Fitz just behind Rice, Moss and TO, Donald is still already higher than 4th best at his position all-time.

All great!
I think if he continues at the pace he’s been for 2-3 more years, he will be in my mind, the best Pitt NFL player ever.
I don’t disagree. Rings are a team thing, but he’d be winning one as the best player on the team. Doing that enhances your legacy.

Obviously, you are all too young to having seen the greatest player in Pitt history, Tony Dorsett. He left a 5′ 11″, 195-pound tailback with the NCAA record for most rushing yards in a Division 1 program, a Heisman Trophy and a National Title. I’m talking college and not the pros (but he did ok there also). I saw him in person for four years and his ability to stop, turn and accelerate left you speechless. Sorry, Aaron had one outstanding year as did Fitz. Tony had FOUR outstanding years.
The show is not just who is the greatest Pitt player. You are only focusing on college, but I’m talking combined as the best NFL player who went to Pitt. I am too young to have seen Dorsett, but I addressed him as one of the best backs ever etc. I know history. There are also other running backs like Jim Brown, Walter Payton, Barry Sanders etc I’d rank ahead of Dorsett all-time. Donald can argue as best at the position already. If we were talking best Pitt career only, then it definitely be Dorsett for everything in his college… Read more »
Maybe just maybe you should do a little research on TD. NFL Hall of Fame -check, All Pro – check, Super Bowl – check, retired as second leading rusher to Walter Payton when Chicago had nothing else. I start an All Time Pitt team with TD.
I still go with Larry Fitz.

Barring injury, there’s no reason to believe he won’t. He’s still in his prime.
A ring will not change his legacy. There’s only so much a DT can do to affect the game. Now, if he wins MVP, that will enhance his legacy.
