On Wednesday, Pittsburgh Sports Now confirmed another transfer that the Pitt staff has contacted in the portal.
Hammond is a 6-foot-3 guard who transferred out of Niagara just days ago. Hammond was a First Team All-MAAC selection this season, and for good reason, as he averaged 18.1 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game. Hammond also shot 43% from the field and 37% from three-point range in his senior season.
Since entering the portal, Hammond told Pittsburgh Sports Now that he has heard from Pitt, Iowa State, Fordham, Oklahoma, Rutgers, Cal, Arkansas, Temple, Cincinnati, Butler, DePaul, and Penn State.
From Pitt’s end, associate head coach Tim O’Toole reached out to Hammond’s father, and shortly after, Hammond heard from Jeff Capel.
With the transfer of Ithiel Horton, Pitt now has six available scholarships to give out for next season, and just seven active scholarship players. The Panthers are looking to add as much depth as they can, especially in the back court, and seem to think that Hammond is a good option to target.
Is JC thinking or begging? This is getting seriously ridiculous. Pandora’s box is open and good luck closing it.
So now Jeff Capel thinks he can build a team thru the ‘transfer portal?’ More players have used this ‘portal’ to leave the program, not join it..So now the ‘plan’ is to throw a bunch a guy’s together from other teams and compete in the ‘ACC’? Does anyone out there really believe things will be better next year? It’s not working. It never did.Pitt should have made a move for change after the 20 losses.Expect more of the same next year
