Highlands football and basketball star Mitch DeZort worked out for the Pitt coaching staff this weekend. DeZort (6-1, 210) is an outside linebacker that would love the opportunity to play for his hometown school.

“The experience at the camp was great. I love the energy that the coaching staff had throughout the whole day. I got some great feedback from Coach Harley who taught me some of their style of coverage. Learning different small details was great because I can bring some of them back and pass them onto other players at my high school,” said DeZort.
Considering he’s a linebacker at Highlands, it’s no that DeZort spent a lot of time speaking with the Pitt linebacker coach.
“I spoke with many coaches at the camp and I did have a chance to talk to Coach Harley at the end of camp with my dad. We talked about how important this upcoming season and how he thought I did at camp.”
“What really impressed me was specifically, how vocal Coach Harley was and the intensity that he coached with. I really thrived in that type of environment. It reminded me of my dad as a coach (long time high school football coach),” said DeZort.
Like many of the other players that visit the South Side, DeZort was really impressed with what he saw inside the Pitt complex.
“The facilities really can’t be beat especially their indoor field considering it is also the Steelers! The coaching staff is very organized and very determined to take their program another step forward,” said DeZort.
The big question is what did Pitt say to DeZort about an offer? The senior linebacker is a player that the coaches are familiar with and have talked to numerous times.
“Coach Harley did mention that this senior season is huge for me considering that they only have one offer left (because 2 LB’s committed already). So this season is huge for me! They will keep in touch over the summer to keep me informed on where I stand,” said DeZort.
“Pitt will always be toward the top of my list. They are building their program to the next level. They are continuing to add more and more elite WPIAL guys to their roster, which in my opinion will really help them take that next step. They have the best talent right in their back yard (WPIAL)! I love everything about the staff and school!”
