Another preseason honor for Duquesne star running back AJ Hines.

A day after being named to the FCS Preseason All-America team, junior back was named to the watch list for the 2018 Walter Payton Award. This prestigious award is given to the most outstanding offensive player in FCS football.

The Payton Award has previously gone to NFL players such as Steve McNair, Tony Romo, Brian Westbrook, John Friesz, Jimmy Garoppolo and Cooper Kupp.

In the last two seasons, the Dukes have had two Walter Payton Award finalists in quarterbacks Dillon Buechel (2016) and Tommy Stuart (2017).

In his first two seasons at Duquesne, Hines has rushed for 2,329 yards and scored 23 touchdowns. Also, the North Carolina native has went over the 100-yard mark 13 times, which ranks fourth in program history.

The Walter Payton Award winner will be announced after the regular season.
